Pennsylvania recently changed the law to re-enact provisions for courts to appoint "parent coordinators" to assist parents after the entry of a custody order to effectuate the provisions of the order. The court appoints these "parent coordinators" from a list of experienced and pre-approved attorneys who have fulfilled the legal requirements, including specialized training.
Carla Risoldi is an attorney in Bucks County, Pennsylvania with a focus on family law and divorce proceedings. As a certified mediator and parent coordinator eligible for appointment in Bucks, Montgomery, Philadelphia, Chester, and Delaware Counties, Carla Risoldi has specialized training in alternative dispute resolution and parental guidance. Carla Risoldi is presently on the court-approved list in Bucks County, Pennsylvania.
Parenting coordinators are trained to help co-parents resolve disputes and manage a cohesive parenting plan. Here are some of the benefits they can provide:
1. In ideal scenarios, parenting coordinators may reduce the stress of parenting. The emotional burden of co-parenting can be taxing, and by learning to agree more than argue, co-parenting becomes a lot easier.
2. Parenting coordinators can help make the right decisions for kids. By providing an outside perspective, parenting coordinators can help co-parents make decisions in a child’s best interest, separately from issues between the parents.
3. Parenting coordinators can help reduce court visits. By offering the right guidance and helping make the right decisions, parents that take the advice of a coordinator are less likely to need further court appearances.
Everything that the coordinator decides can ultimately be brought to court but it can often be helpful for the parents to have a third-party other than a judge to discuss their disputed issues with and hopefully avoid the stress and costs involved with going back to court to enforce or modify their existing custody order.
